When tired of drinking absinthe through the traditional French ritual, one starts experimenting. It is true to say that it is most pleasant to play with one’s own homemade spirit (click here to learn how to make absinthe), however if you are too lazy for that the absinthe manufacturers have already taken the pain for you, so that you can use the finished product.
To prepare ‘absinthe suissesse’ the following ingredients should be at hand:
- absinthe (two ounces),
- anisette (one splash),
- white crème de menthe (half ounce),
- raw egg white (one),
- ice (three to five cubes).
You may care or not, but the creator of the drink was inspired by a Swiss girl, thus it was called in her honor. Could be she was plain and easy, but really nice that is why the shake is prepared and looks in a similar way.
First you need to whip an egg into a white cream. Then take all the listed ingredients, pour them into your cocktail mixer together with ice and shake energetically for a couple minutes. In case you don’t have white crème de menthe at your disposal you can replace it by clear crème de menthe and add a splash of heavy cream as well since the drink is supposed to have a whitish color. If you deem it is too strong for you, feel free to thin it with a splash of club soda.
The received is poured into a chilled glass and ready to be consumed. In order to make it look yummier you can decorate it with two green straws, leaves of fresh mint and a tiny Swiss flag into the glass. It is also a good idea to prepare white ice cubes by pouring a little bit milk into the water which is intended to be frozen. Your ‘absinthe suissesse’ is all set now and you can enjoy it.
However, be careful. If you don’t hide somewhere to drink it, you will have to make more for your friends since nobody will be able to resist the temptation of having one in case they catch you red-handed.
